Edge control and taking care of your edges

I never really talk about the edge control that i use so today i will tell you all about it and also how to keep your edges intact while using edge control. I personally do not have baby hairs to lay down but i improvise! Lol. Why not? If not. It looks good on me so i do it for style.

I began to lay my edges down last year and i have been loving the look. I've used Eco Styler olive oil styling gel (i have run out of this one) and Eco Styler Argan oil Max Hold gel (currently in use).

How I style my hair: Crotchet Afro Protective hairstyle

Hey loves! wash day was yesterday but i decided not to put up a washday post as i followed thesame washday routine of my previous washday post and used thesame products too. Here's a pic of my hair after blow drying.

During the weekend i went for shopping for some new clothes and i figured i add something really new too. Something i have NEVER done and that is a Crotchet Protective hairstyle. I got a really kinky crotchet hair as i would love to see how i look in a really big afro, lol.

How I style my hair: Bantu knots in....Soft curls out!

Left pic is loose waves later in the day...Right pic is soft curls just after take down

Everything about my recent relaxer touch up got me on cloud nine! Lol. The length of my hair is silky straight and smooth. The ends...oh well they just don't get as straight as the length and tend to revert quickly (I need not tell you that I did a thousand passes on the ends with my flat iron right?)

How I style my hair: My most defined twist out!

Hi there! :-) So, I kept my hair in a top bun as seen in my previous  post for the entire week. I did take it down midweek to moisturise and seal then I put it back in the top bun.  For this week I decided to do a twist out.

I started on a week old blowdried hair and I moisturised my hair lightly. The only setting product I used is Beautiful Textures Curl Control Defining pudding.

Hair update

Nothing much has been going on with my hair. I had my washday after almost 3weeks of not washing my hair and I got to try out Uyai Naturals shampoo and leave in (a detailed review will be up soon). I have been taking my Natrol biotin (the review will come after my Relaxer update) and have slacked in doing scalp massages. I never thought taking biotin would make me so lazy to do my regular scalp massages. I guess I've reformed my brain to think that I do not need to do both. Somebody tap me back into reality! Lol

The Wash Day Experience: An adventurous wash day and my big Bun!

This wash day had me in smiles from start to finish. Maybe it's because I got to try out a few new products (I have a couple of products that I've been using for a while now that I haven't reviewed I plan to do that in subsequent posts) or a tool which I tried out *big grin*

How I style my hair: Lovely Curly Bun

I told ya you wouldn't want to miss this right?! This is my favourite bun so far for two reasons

(1) I didn't get the inspiration from anywhere... At all it really feels so good to be able to manipulate my styles till I get that 'aha!'  style that gets people to stare at me as I walk by.
(2) It has curls as the bun! Have I told you how much I love curls?!

Washday Experience: A new twist to same Ole Bob

This week's protective style

Hey dearies! I'm back with another Washday post. This one was quite smooth sailing. Before I begin, I had alot of feedback regarding my previous protective style  before my hairniversary. For those of you who really want to try the style but you don't know how long it would last, mine lasted for 5 days. I took it down for my hairniversary Washday because I wanted to blow dry my hair.

Washday experience: Hella cute protective style!

Hey beauties! and hey handsome! :-) Yes there are guys who read my blog too *I wonder when they will give me a Holla or comment... If you are reading this pls do (blows kiss)*

Enough of that silly rant lol. While I plan to be bombarding you with Washday posts and pretty protective hairstyles to try since I'm not far into my stretch yet, if you are a newbie feel free to surf every part of this blog. Natural? Beautiful! My sisters Washday posts are also shared on this blog. Make good use of the posts I put up in the tabs above about starting your healthy hair journey, detangling and all.

You can guess that I'm very happy today right?! It's not just because of a bomb protectivestle I have on now but for the fact that this blog is Turing a year old in a week time and it will also mark my 2year healthy hair journey. I didn't do a length check my last relaxer and believe me I'm not bothered about the current length but I will definitely be doing a blow-dry to straighten my hair and will put up 2 year comparison pics! Watch this space because lots of inspiration are coming your way!

Wash day experience: wash and go On TEXLAXED Hair!

Hey dearies! hope we are having an awesome week?!
I'm getting used to having a hairstyle for 3 days and then throwing my hair up in a Bun for the rest of the week. I don't know why but the past weeks I haven't really bothered about keeping my hairstyle for up to a week. Maybe it's because I'm beginning to love the look, texture and thickness of my bun. It has become a style of its own.

I look forward to this when it's close to the weekend
All I have been doing during the week is moisturizing every two days, scalp oiling and scalp massage every two days. About moisturizing... I have to let you know this. With continuous use of my lusters Scurl no drip moisturiser it's just not doing things right. Like there's an oily and dry feeling it starts to have in my hair which I don't really like. Then I found out that it was a new formula and the old formula was the Holy grail and so many people don't like this new formula (why can't companies just leave their products alone?) Of course it softens my new growth and aids detangling but I still feel like I haven't found that best moisturiser yet.

Moving on, Washday happened at the beginning of the week.
I followed my usual Washday procedure which is:
(1) Prepoo (I did a hot oil treatment with my oil mix)
(2) Shampoo
(3) Deep condition

Deep conditioning (Ignore the embarrassing pimple sitting on my nose! )

(4)Rinse out, wrap head for 30mins...apply moisturizer and detangle.

Hey dearies, so this is the continuation of my previous post. If you haven't seen it yet it's a must see so you'll know where we started from and not wonder how to create the back. A direct link to that post is right HERE

Step 7: moisturize and detangle the front section and part it into 3

Detangle and section

Step 8: do a flat twist on the middle section and put a pin on the tips so it doesn't unravel.

Hello loves! Happy New month to you all!  I thought a better way to welcome you into this new month of blessings is with a hair tutorial. I made this style with my sisters natural hair, no extensions. I know that I'll probably get sued if I just show you the protective style without telling you how I made it.

Washday plus Mini bantu knot outs

Hi there :-) hope things are going well at your end? I washed my hair this past week end. Before I tell you about washday.... I didn't update you on my mid week moisturising. I actually did but once because I didn't need more. That was because I used something else to moisturise my newgrowth and length of my hair. I used Organics by Africa's best Cholesterol Tea tree oil conditioner.

Now I know you're probably thinking... Isn't this is a deep conditioner? Why is she moisturising her hair with it? Ok,It states in the container that it's Dual (Rinse out plus leave in conditioner).

I have used it on the length of my hair and to tell you the truth, I love it more for moisturising. So this past week I decided to use it on my new growth and it was just what I needed. It got my new growth really soft! Hence, I will definitely be using it for this purpose.

Onto my washday (Yaaay! Lol)
(1)I divided my hair into 7 sections. I needed to work with smaller sections to make things easier for me.
(2) I detangled my hair with my Okra detangler. (I make it the day I want to use it and I use it on washdays only) then I detangled first using my fingers and then I followed up with a wide tooth comb. Then braided up each section

How hair can get so thin when braided :-)

(3) prepooed overninght with olive oil.

This weeks Protective style...

Hey loves, so I did my moisturising and sealing today and also oiled my scalp and did a scalp massage. It's exactly a week since I washed my hair and I have been wearing it in a bun since then. If you haven't seen my previous post Pls do because I explained my bun routine and how I moisturise my new growth. I didn't add my 911 leave in this time because my hair still had enough strength.

When viewing from afar you can clearly see the darker potions closest  to my parting

For this week I decided to put in a halo flat twist...

I'm back + what went down on valentines day!

Hey cuties! how do you do? :-) I have been a bad bad blogger! i never intended to take this long but trust me the break was needed. Academics is demanding more of my time.

While away so maany things happened and i just couldnt wait any longer to tell you the stories. Some good...some plain bad but i learnt from it though. Let me start by showing you my valentines day hair :-)

This is the first time my flexi rod set is coming out pretty and very curly.
I used 30 rods and 9 curl formers.

I purchased a curlformer kit that had 18 curl formers with the hook...did i know it was gonna be a waste of my money...i only used 9 of the 18 as they were too short for my hair. I went back to where i bought it to know if he had a longer one (cause i initially wanted 2 packs) but you know how rude some Nigerian traders can be...he told me plain that curlformers dont come in longer lengths...lol
I made this set on freshly washed and deep conditioned hair. The steps were thesame...
prepoo (did a hardcore protein treatment with two eggs because its been so long since i did even a mild protein treatment)
shampooed with VO5 moisture milks
Deep conditioned with Organics cholesterol DC + VO5 conditioner + a table spion of glycerine...this mix was awesome!
Rinsed out and t-shirt dried for 30 mins then applied ORS moisturiser and then i detangled with a wide tooth comb.
I made small partings with my fingers and sprayed my holding spray on each section before i rolled on the rods.
Using the curlformers wasnt stressing at all because i had watched many youtube videos on how to use them.
I had my washday at night so i slept on the set *cringe* it wasnt easy.

The next morning i took out the rods and i was very happy with my hair. As much as it looks great being let down i wore it up till the curls fell and then wore it as a bob. That was on day 4.

pic below is my hair after applying the egg as protein treatment/prepoo...my hair felt really harrrrd.

Other washdays went well.... i had some challenged with my new growth trying to drive me nuts but its all under control now. will be back with a post on my My relaxer stretch...the protective styles that has worked for me and my strategy to remain on this stretch till 4 or 5 months. I hope you do check back from time to time...pretty please? *cracks an Ariana Grande smile*

After egg has been applied as protein treatment/prepoo

How i styled my hair: A Bob & My Bun life! How to create a fuller bun

I haven't put up a 'how i styled my hair post' in weeks.... OMG!! Those who follow me on instagram may have seen the pictures of what happens to my hair in between washdays (IG @Juditherese). If you're not on instagram no worries i still post about all i do. So this will be a post on what i did to may hair before my last washday...

I know i bought a wig and i have worn it for about 2weeks... the thing is... i am beginning to love wearing my hair out more. Also friends who have seen my hair frown at the fact that i'm always keeping my hair out of sight. So few days before my coffee rinse washday i stretched my hair with the threading method and then made a faux Bob hairstyle (i got the idea from Naija girl next door blog... though i do it on my sisters natural hair, i haven't stretched my texlaxed hair with threads). I used rubber threads. Threaded each with about Six pieces (those in Nigeria will understand what i mean). I did mine at night....nobody wants to walk around looking like "Simbi" lol...

Here's the steps i followed for my threading:
*divide into about 5-8 sections
*moisturise and seal each section then
*detangle and thread each section one at a time.
*if you really need to stretch your new growth then thread tightly towards the bottom (not too tight...adjust the bottom as preferred).
*to sleep...bend the threads down and wrap your head with a scarf. It helps keep the threads in place while you sleep
*loosen the threads the next morning... your hair is stretched!
comb out and style.

After washday...this week I put my hair in a bun and i will be on my bun life till i relax my hair. I have a couple of things to do before i head back home... anyways.... yea... so do you prefer big buns as i do??? if yes...

here's how i make my bun bigger without having to use a bun filler!
*use a small pony tail holder and secure it just once.... don't go round twice or make it tight.
*wrap your hair a to create a loose bun.

Don't make it tight.... i don't know if you get the idea but the pictorial will show you what i mean. I advice you do it a fee times and get the technique of wrapping it loosely and still getting it to look nice and smooth.

Pic guide:
*first pic: stretching my hair with African threading.
*second pic: how to create a fuller bun.
*third pic: tight bun vs loose bun comparison.

PS: My sister is 1 year into her hair journey this December... her progress post will be up as soon as i get home... Will also relax and do a length check pretty soon. You wouldn't want to miss any of this posts...

                 *complements of the season...much love*

Washday & Flexi Rod set

Hey lovelies!! I'm behind on posts... so sorry about that :-( I have just been really busy! I'm glad i finally got to write this post.

This wash day happened last Saturday. I was quite excited because i tried something new but i want to use it for sometime before giving a review and that is Palm Kernel oil. I have seen good reviews on it...but hey! what works for people may not work for you...lol.  Here's a quick run down on how it went.
washday procedure:
*oil prepoo with palm kernel oil
*finger detangle and covered with plastic cap for hours...lol
*shampooed it off with my lavender shampoo
*wrapped head for 15mins
*deep conditioned with ORS replenishing conditioner for about an hour

*rinsed out and wrapped my head with towel.
*detangled gently with wide tooth comb..
Now here's my flexi rod procedure.
* my hair was washed in sections so i parted with my fingers to create smaller sections.
*moisturised and sealed sparingly
*applied my lusti organics holding spray and
*combed through a section.
*rolled the rods tightly onto the hair and bent the ends of the rods to secure it.
*all these happened in the evening so i went to bed with the rods on my head and... its not a pleasant experience at all... i couldn't sleep well for a long time until i found a way to lay my head without much pain and disturbance... (things that we do for our hair;-)...lol)
Installing flexi rods is best learnt by watching a flexi rod set video. There are so many YouTube videos that teach how to use flexi rods.
In the end my hair came out with lovely curls... but before the end of the day my hair got poofy and poofier :-( that the curls almost became unseen. I think i know the culprit because i have done flexi rods before and they lasted longer than a day.
(1) i failed to moisturise and seal well. I thought i could just skip this but i should have just stuck to what i always do.
(2) I am 9weeks post relaxer and combing my hair at this time is something i try to stay away from. So i combed but didn't make sure to really smoothen the section out before rolling on the rods.
I love all styles that gives my hair curls so i will definitely give flexi rods another try and i hope it lasts longer next time!
Here's a pic guide.
*second pic shows my hair with the flexi rods in...total of 25rods
*next upper shows after removal and the curls have not been separated...lower pic is after separating one section into two or three.
*last pic is Sunday afternoon...the curls got a bit poofy.

how was your recent washday? tried any new products?
                   *much love  :-)*

Flat twist out video

Hey cuties!
Been getting comments from friends on how i made my flat twist out so i thought its better i share a video since i don't do videos for now. I just began to notice the importance of putting up a video because things like detangling and styling tutorials are better watched than read. I have not yet settled down with blogging... i may start up a vlog some time in the future but for now i will try my best to share videos that shows how to do the hairstyles if a pictorial is not enough.
Here's a link on how to do a flat twist out..I hope you find it helpful. click on the link to view.

How I Styled My Hair: FLAT TWIST OUT

Hey cuties! I've been itching to do a flat twist out ever since i saw Tomes flat twist. I love the curls they give but i barely do them... since my hair journey i have done it just three times. so without much chit chat... here's how i made and styled my flat twist.
After washday i detangled in the evening. Sectioned my hair with my fingers and sprayed each dry section with Lusti Organics hair spray for hold and shine.
I made about 12 flat twists making sure i twisted tightly as i went along and ended each flat twist with  bantu knot.
I let it air dry overnight and took down the curls gently. used my hands to separate some curls and pushed them. My bangs made the hairstyle i achieved really cute:-). I was really happy with my hair!!!
The excitement lasted just for one day because i got caught in a little rain that caused my curls to stretch so i just kept my hair in a bun which i will be wearing till my next washday.
Here are pics of the flat twists and how they looked when i took them down. (I still had a problem with lighting so i adjusted the pics a bit to make the curls clearer).
Just wondering....how did you            style your hair??
